Yes. my guilty pleasure is quilting

Double Wedding Ring Part 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and …….

I’mmm back.  I have been MIQ (missing in quilting) for mmmmm..I’d say about 5 weeks now.  Well let me tell you what I have been doing.  I decided it was time to start and finish my PB and her HP’s Double Wedding Ring quilt, so every spare minute that I had went in to making it.  And ta da, it went to the quilter yesterday.  I really meant to take more pictures of the process but guess I was just chugging along and I forgot.

The curved pieces sewn together

Half a football sewn together. That’s just what I called them cuz to me they look like footballs.

Sewing the other half of the football on.

Football complete

Awww…some picking out to do.  There was a bit of that!!

Two….two footballs sewn together..Waahaahaahaa.  Doesn’t that sound like the Count from Sesame Street.  Well that’s what I heard in my head.

Lots of footballs!!!

Rows on the design wall.

That’s it for now. Will show you the quilt when I get it back from the quilter and I have the binding on it.

You know it’s amazing.  I spent a lot of time on this quilt and enjoyed every single minute of it. I thought a lot about PB and I thought about her life with her HP.  I find that some times when I am working on a quilt, I get tired of the same old, same old, but that didn’t happen with this one.  It really was an amazing experience filled with many happy thoughts and memories.  A quilt truly made with love.

Hoopsisters Trunk Show

Hoopsisters here we come.  Joan and I and 2 of our quilty friends that are doing the Mystery Quilt from Hoopsisters took a road trip out to Tom’s Sewing Machines out in Surrey  to see a trunk show featuring the Hoopsisters patterns.  It was great and of course I had to come home with some new patterns…oh and just a tiny bit of material.  They have a batik of the month club and this months fabric was to die for so I just had to join.  Right!!

So now on with the show…

How cute is this!!

I had to have this one..

And this one..

Didn’t buy this one…yet

Got this one…

This is the back of the following picture.  Joan and I are both making this one.  It’s called Goose Tracks

I love this one.  It’s on my have to have list.

And last but not least…I got this one.

The pictures don’t do the quilts justice.  They really are beautiful to see

Quilt for Canuck Place Part 2

I am really pleased how the quilt for Canuck Place turned out.  There was to be 15 quilts presented to Canuck Place but it’s looking like there are going to be quite a few more.  And what a worthy cause it is…Way to go Raye for coming up with such a good idea.

Wedding Ring Quilt Part Two

Oh my, oh my, oh my, where does time go. I couldn’t believe just how far back I had to go to find WR Part One.  I am so lucky that my PB is so patient and that our weather has finally turned super hot (well it’s super hot to me) and all you need or want right now is a sheet covering you.  So the pieces are all cut out.  All 2,016 of them. I used my oh so fabulous “Accuquilt Go Cutter”.  If I didn’t have that I might still be cutting.  It is such a treasure.

So we’re off….yeah!!!  I have started to strip piece the first 2 pieces…will show you my progress as I go along. And no, it will not be xxxxx months.  I am aiming to be done by the end of August.

Quilts for Canuck Place

Joan and her sister Val of Maple Leaf Quilters came up with a great idea to make 16 quilts for the 16 games the Vancouver Canucks would have to play to win the Stanley Cup.  What an awesome idea!! The Canucks did not win the cup but they put up a valiant effort and made it to the very last game.  These quilts are being donated to Canuck Place here in Vancouver.  Way to go Joan and Val!!

Joan busy cutting the fabric.

Embroidery ready to add to the quilts.

Such intense concentration Jackie…

Me, sewing…

Don’t you love strip piecing!!

Will show you the finished product…hopefully later this week.

Yeah!!!! It’s done!!!

I finished the Buggy Barn “Crazy Cats” quilt for my sisters birthday. A little late. But It is finished and mailed.  Yeah!! I love making quilts but I get to a part in the process of doing something I have never done before or don’t do very often and I stop.  This can be for anywhere from a day to a couple of weeks.  Then I finally get my nerve up again and continue on.  Well that happened with this quilt when I was quilting it.  For some reason, I feel the need to do a pattern that is more complicated than is necessary and then I stop.  Hopefully I learned this time.

Almost done

I have been sewing and quilting and sewing and quilting and quilting and quilting. I am almost finished the quilting.  I really really wanted to get this quilt completed in time for my sisters birthday…..but alas….I still have some more quilting to finish and then put the binding on.

This is before all the sewing and quilting and quilting and sewing….you get the idea.

I will finish it this weekend and show you a new picture.

Pooh Quilt

I mentioned a while ago that I was making a Pooh quilt for my PB’s new sister-in-law.  I had a deadline of April 1 cuz PB was going to a baby shower on the 3rd.  My project at the Sewing Day was the “Pooh Quilt”.  I got a lot of it done there.  I still had to sew a couple of squares and then sew the top together.  Oh yeh….then I made the back.  Ran out of the light brown fabric.  Luckily I was able to pickup 2 more fat quarters which was just enough for the binding.

Ta da…I do say that a lot don’t I??? How about Shazam!!! Here is my oh so beautiful “Pooh” baby quilt.  I used a pattern, but what was so cool was that I scanned my fabric in to EQ7.  Then I drew the pattern and played around with the layout.  I am just a beginner in EQ so it took me a while but I loved being able to get a really good idea of what the quilt would look like.

And it’s Off

My Doll Quilt Swap quilt is finished and will be off to it’s new home in Colorado on Monday.  I hope that my partner enjoys it as much as I enjoyed making it.  I am rather proud of myself as I used some new techniques that I have not tried before-trapunto, machine quilting, accucutter. It is the second original quilt that I made.

This is my first one which I made 28 years ago, long before I ever knew that I would fall in love with quilting or even had any idea of what quilting really is.  It was made for my PB before she was even born.  Her room was decorated like a circus with the valance on the window being the top of the BIG TOP tent and the roman shades being the multicolored sides of the tent.  She had balloons on her wall and as you can see balloons on her bed.

Now wasn’t that a little trip down memory lane.  Of course you realize that I had her when I was 12 ……..right!!! Just kidding

A Birthday Surprise

Jut to let you know that I haven’t just been buying fabric.  That I actually do sew something too.  Although buying fabric is so fun.  I have my eye on Amy Butler’s Soul Blossom.  Don’t know how long I will be able to hold out. Anyway back to what I am working on.

This is Crazy Cats from Buggy Barn.  I have 3 cats done and all the flowers.  It is not my colors, but I am enjoying the pattern.  Someone is having a very special birthday this year so am making it for them.  How sneeky is that…I didn’t even tell you what the persons gender is.  It must be all those forensic type shows that I watch.
